- Subject: Micorosoft TCP/IP and ODI drivers
-
- Will the new Microsoft TCP/IP beta run over ODI drivers or do you have to
- install the peer to peer stuff?
-
- I would like to know as I use WFW 3.11 on a Novell network. This is the only
- network support I use as I am the only person running WFW. I don't want to run
- both ODI and the WFW stuff as I am very short of low memory .... novell,
- CD-ROM, soundcard, doublespace, etc. are causing server RAM cram.
-
- If it does not now run over ODI drivers ... will it do so in the future?

- In thiks case this will not run. Get yourself the Winsock for Lan Workplace

-
- The web client you use shouldn't affect the speed a home page loads. After
- all, you are still transferring the same amount of data over the dial-up line.
- If anything, Mosaic 2.0a4 should be faster in rendering the inline graphics
- now that it is a 32-bit application. And it does do that quicker on this
- machine and yes, I'm coming in on a 14.4 Kbps dial-up too.
-
- One thing that I like Mosaic over Cello is Mosaic's standard use of text-
- based INI file. I can edit it with a text editor if I like, which I cannot
- with Cello's (non-text-based, at least as of version 1.0). Also, Mosaic's
- built-in menu editor is great.
-
- All the features of HTTP+ implementation aren't available with Cello either
- (again, as of version 1.0).

- By GOOD, I assume you mean, "with the functionality of trn, tin, or nn."
-
- There isn't any such animal, at the current time.
-
- I think lots of folks are underestimating the enormous amount of work that
- producing a Windows equivalent of trn or tin involves.
-
- >I'm using trumpet 1.0 rev A and, for the money, I can't complain. But it has

-
- You can get all the news groups by deleting your news.grp file then connecting
- to your news server. This works around a bug in the current code.
-
- >If the trumpet news reader is still the best, what's the latest release and

-
- V1.0a is the latest public release. 1.0b is in final beta stages, and has
- threading, better followup and posting features, and more. But it still is a
- long way from trn or tin. IMHO, WinVN, the only other contender, has an even
- longer way to go.

- Subject: Trumpet winsock error
-
- I'm running Trumpet winsock. Whenever I'm using the WS-Gopher and
- eventually exit the program and the Trumpet program I see line after
- line of "Error: WSAENOTSOCK (1)". There appears to be a line for
- each gopher I have accessed. While I have not used WS-Gopher
- extensively, thus far the error has not effected use of the gopher. I
- should note that I also use HGopher and WS-FTP programs and have not
- seen any winsock errors with these two programs.
-
- Does anyone know what the error means and what its implications are?
-
- (If you post a response, please also send one to me via email.
- Currently I have limited, dial-in News service)
-
- Thanks. -- Bob Bocher rbocher@macc.wisc.edu
